Welcomes You and Your Family |
|
-
Sort hotel-size toiletries into categories: soap, shampoo, conditioner, lotion (the toiletries would be provided by the Pantry, along with bins to sort items into. Someone would need to pick up and deliver back to the Pantry.)
-
Provide seasonal candy or other treats: Valentine candy, Easter baskets, Mother's Day gift bags. We get a lot of food and treats donated in the fall for Thanksgiving and Christmas, but it is great to have special items for these other holidays, too.
-
Re-package rice purchased in bulk into family-size portions in reclosable baggies. (Pantry would supply rice and baggies)
-
How about "Brownies from the Brownies"? Perhaps the girls could each bring a brownie mix to donate?
-
Baby shower for the Pantry -- children bring baby food, formula or diapers, and during the meeting play baby shower games, have decorated cake for snack, etc. just like ladies would do at a baby shower.
-
Provide food for and pack an "emergency box". These are banana boxes packed with non-perishable food that a family can arrange to pick up if they have no food at a time the Pantry is not open. It is enough food for three days, giving the family food to eat until they can come for a regular food order when the Pantry is open. Group members would pick up one or more banana boxes from a grocery store (free for the asking) and fill it with the following items:
-
1 box cereal
-
1 box instant oatmeal
-
1 box granola/breakfast bars
-
1 small box dried milk
-
1 package powdered juice drink (like Tang)
-
1 hot beverage (or a baggie with a mix of hot chocolate, tea bag and individual coffee servings.)
-
2 cans soup
-
2 boxes mac & cheese
-
1 jar peanut butter
-
1 jar jelly
-
1 box crackers (if available)
-
1 pkg. Cookies (if available)
-
1 box tuna helper with 1 large can tuna OR chicken helper w/1 can chicken
-
1 "Complete" meal with meat OR 2 cans beef stew
-
1 spaghetti sauce & spaghetti noodles
-
3 cans vegetables
-
3 cans fruit
-
1 bag rice
-
1 bag dried beans
-
1 pouch instant mashed potatoes
-
1 pouch cookie mix (just add water)
-
1 single roll toilet paper
-
3 each hotel-size toiletries: soap, shampoo, conditioner (place together in a baggie)
-
One additional thought -- last year a Cub Scout group collected pennies all year, then took them to the bank and brought us a check for the total -- which was nearly $300! Those pennies add up!
